Portman to invest $80 million in Beltline hotel, seeks tax abatement for project

A top Atlanta developer plans to invest roughly $80 million in a boutique hotel project along the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail.

Portman Holdings LLC now is seeking $3.5 million in tax abatements for the hotel from the Development Authority of Fulton County. The project is expected to be heard at the authority’s July 23 meeting.

The development is expected to generate more than $9 million in tax revenue over 10 years, according to the authority.

Cleaning the streets: Rubicon Global signs 3-year, $750,000 deal with city of Montgomery, Ala

Rubicon Global, an Atlanta-based technology startup that aims to help cities become more sustainable, has signed a 3-year, $750,000 deal with the city of Montgomery, Ala.

The deal comes after the city agreed to try a six-month pilot program with Rubicon in 2018. Now, the company will equip 60 city vehicles with its proprietary "Smart City" platform.

Atlanta cybersecurity firm DefenseStorm said Tuesday it has raised $15 million in a financing round led by Toronto, Canada's, Georgian Partners.

October opening eyed for new Kroger along Beltline

A new Kroger store along the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail is expected to open in mid-October, according to its developer.

The 60,000-square-foot store is located on a bustling part of the trail, across from Ponce City Market.

The store will have two front doors, as Atlanta Business Chronicle reported last year. One entrance will open to the Beltline with a 2,500-square-foot porch facing the trail and a Starbucks coffee shop with a walk-up window.

Amazon confirms new 1,000-employee fulfillment center near Atlanta

Amazon.com Inc. confirmed Wednesday it will open a new fulfillment center in Gwinnett County, creating 1,000 jobs.

The site on the Gwinnett and DeKalb county lines had been expected to land the project. Atlanta Business Chronicle reported in May 2018 Amazon was working on a proposed development called Project Rocket. The project moved forward in July 2018.
